The Winter Passing stemmed from the vital Dublin DIY scene in 2013 constructing their brand of ‘hook heavy indie pop’.
At the heart of the group is brother and sister pair Rob and Kate Flynn, who have been playing music together since they were 14 and 12, respectively. Growing up together the two shared a love of bands such as The Get Up Kids, The Anniversary, Weezer, The Replacements, and Sonic Youth, the influences of which are heavily present in their songs.
"A Different Space of Mind is a record about survival, about saving yourself from yourself, and the realization of the world around you," explains Rob of their debut album.
The Winter Passing's A Different Space of Mind was co-released by 6131 Records (North America) and FITA Records (UK/EU) on September 18th, 2015.
The release of the album has received wide praise from the likes of Noisey, Brooklyn Vegan, Rock Sound Magazine & The Irish Times along with a sold out record release show at The Grand Social in Dublin and an appearance at Ireland’s premiere Music Festival Electric Picnic (Tame Impala, Mac Demarco, Alvvays, Interpol, Blur).
Since the release of their debut full length album, The band have toured the American East Coast for the first time including an appearances in Brooklyn, NY supporting PWR BTTM & Gainesville, FL at THE FEST (Andrew WK, Modern Baseball, Beach Slang, Foxing, TWIABP, Lagwagon, MewithoutYou) along with two full UK tours, most recently as main support to Moose Blood along with upcoming shows with Modern Baseball.
The band plays an undeniably catchy combination of pop-punk, emo, indie, and serious levels of fun - NOISEY/VICE Magazine
"The Winter Passing's indie pop with loud guitars is as infectious as it is quirky" - Kerrang Magazine (Live Review)
''Boy-girl vocals with a roughed-up, melancholic underspinning mean the excel at minor chord punk duets that are supercharged, emotionally & sonically'' - Hot Press Magazine - '2016 Ones To Watch'
The vocals of the band are provided by brother-sister duo Rob and Kate Flynn and, add in some great musical ability from other band members, you have a great band that has an edge and provides something a bit different from other bands that are similar musical wise. - Vulture Hound Magazine (Live Review)
